Notorious gold chain and blackberry snatcher sentenced to seven years

Photo credit: lazytechguys.comChester “Chucky” Valmond of Stockfarm, a notorious gold chain and blackberry mobile handset snatcher, was on Thursday sentenced to seven years (7) imprisonment by Magistrate Candia Carette-George on thirteen (13) theft related charges. The Defendant, during the period of 12th July, 2011 to 8th of December, 2011 “grabbed” four gold chains, five Blackberry mobile handsets, one Nokia Camera, one brown purse, $130.00 cash, $80.00 cash, malicious damage and attempted theft of $250.00.From the facts presented by Police Prosecutor Inspector Claude Weekes, the Defendant would snatch mobile handsets, gold chain and purses from civilians, all females, while they were walking the streets attending to their affairs. Magistrate Carette-George asked the Defendant, “What caused him to commit all these offenses” and he replied; “I don’t have anybody for me. My mother not checking me, I on my own. I trying my best but nothing working out.”When asked to make a plea in mitigation for himself he replied, “I don’t have nothing to say your worship.”The Defendant received sentences for all thirteen offenses ranging from one month to one year for the stolen items, a total of 7 years imprisonment to run consecutively.In related news, the Defendant was also jointly charged with a minor of Tarish Pit for stealing one gold chain valued at $1200.00 and one HP Pavilion mini laptop valued at $1100.00. The minor was granted bail in the amount of $15, 000.00, and his grandmother stood as his surety.She told the Court that she is employed by Mrs Tina Alexander, a counselor who is willing to work with her grandson and that he is “a very good child but bad company cause him to do those things”.Magistrate Carette-George told the minor that he should take advantage of the counseling sessions with Mrs. Alexander to turn his life around, stop following bad friends and behave himself.
