What Broome County officials are learning from the SUNY Oneonta outbreak

first_imgKaufman said her department is working with Binghamton University constantly to adapt their procedures in case of a similar, local outbreak. The Broome County Health Department said it is closely monitoring the outbreak at the school, as many county residents attend the university. Public Health Director Rebecca Kaufman told 12 News Tuesday she has gotten in touch with students returning to the county, even before the outbreak was declared. “We have a conference call with them frequently and the last few weeks even daily to make sure we’re prepared for any kind of outbreak and response so that there’s communication between the county and the university,” she said. According to the state’s official case tracker, at SUNY Oneonta, more than 600 students have tested positive for COVID-19 since the semester began and now those students are returning home.center_img (WBNG) — Local health officials are monitoring a nearby outbreak, wary of individuals bringing the coronavirus back to Broome County.
